BULL MOUNTAIN HISTORY
Legend has it, a bull lived here 150 years ago. They say he escaped from a herd of cattle on its way to market on a barge on the Tualatin River. He and his band of wild cattle ranged on the mountain in pioneer days and the neighbors rounded up all the animals but one – the famous bull. He spent many years roaming the mountain and eating the grass that grows here.
Over the years, the area has been developed, with many of the homes built in the '90s, and there have been several “Street Of Dreams” communities here. Two have been in the Mountain Gate neighborhood and the most recent was Brentwood Estates in 2011.
Bull Mountain is mostly unincorporated in Washington County, hence the “Portland” addresses that you may see, though our community services are provided by Tigard. In 2004 Tigard tried to annex the mountain wholesale but the measure was defeated by a 9-to-1 ratio by unincorporated voters. In 2006, a measure to incorporate Bull Mountain failed by a small margin. If the measure passed, it would have created the city of Bull Mountain of about 8,100 west of Tigard.
